Home Credit Review: Is It Legit? Rates and Red Flags

Contents

Home Credit is the Philippines' biggest installment lender, run by HC Consumer Finance Philippines Inc., a financing company with a primary SEC certificate of authority and a platform on the official recorded list dated January 26, 2026. The Home Credit cash loan reaches ₱150,000, more than almost any app we track. Two catches matter before you apply. Cash loans are currently offered to existing customers, and the lender's own pages publish three different versions of its interest rate. This review checks the registry, lines up all three rates, and prints the full late-fee ladder most lenders hide.

Last checked against the SEC registry: September 16, 2026. Every figure below comes from the lender's official pages, disclosures, and store listings verified on that date.

Is Home Credit Legit? The Registry Record

Home Credit holds the strongest status in our entire table. The operator is a financing company with Certificate of Authority 1071 read from the SEC's own registry of financing companies, a primary record, not a footer or an aggregator. That matters because financing companies have a public searchable registry, unlike lending companies. The "My Home Credit" platform also appears on the official recorded platforms list of January 26, 2026, issued under MC 19, series of 2019.

We also checked the negative space. No Home Credit entity appears in the SEC's ban waves or advisory enforcement records we track through June 2026. Impostor warnings that circulate by SMS attach themselves to the brand's fame; the record itself is clean. The full paperwork trail sits on our Is Home Credit SEC registered page. Verified September 16, 2026. Re-check after every SEC advisory.

Registration, here as everywhere, is the entry ticket and not a quality stamp. The interesting part is price, and price is where Home Credit's own channels disagree.

The Cash Loan Gate: Existing Customers First

Before any rate talk, one line on the lender's own application page changes who this product is for: "We currently provide cash loans to our existing customers."

That is a gate. New users who install the app for a cash loan may find the door closed until they have a history with the company, typically through its signature installment products in partner stores. The store listings advertise the cash loan broadly; the website qualifies it narrowly. When a marketing channel and an application page disagree, trust the application page. If you are brand new to Home Credit and need cash today, have a fallback ready; our loan app reviews hub lists registered apps that lend to first-time borrowers.

Three Official Rate Versions

One lender, one product, three published rates. All three come from Home Credit's own channels, checked the same day.

Source Published rate
Website, cash loan page "The monthly interest rate for Home Credit Cash Loan starts at 2.32%"; actual rate varies by amount, term, and customer
Official disclosures page "Nominal Interest Rate 1.49% - 8.99% per Month"; average monthly effective rate (EIR) 3.89%
Google Play and App Store "Minimum – 2.49% per month; 30% p.a." to "Maximum – 8.49% per month; 102% p.a."; "loan interest rates starting at 30% APR"

The versions do not contradict so much as speak different dialects; our Home Credit interest rate page reconciles all three. Nominal monthly rates understate the real cost once fees and declining balance enter; effective rate (EIR) is the honest yardstick, and the disclosures page says it averages 3.89% a month, roughly 60% a year on our reading. The store ceiling of 102% a year is the worst case inside the published band. Our advice in one line: compare offers by EIR, not by the nominal sticker, using the formula on our methodology page. Then run your own quote through the loan calculator before signing.

What a Home Credit Loan Really Costs

The rate is only the headline. The disclosures page lists the fee stack, and it is longer than most.

Fee Published amount
Processing fee "Up to PHP 500" (disclosures); stores say "3% or Max PHP1,000", deducted from proceeds
Loan Extra Care Fee Up to PHP 99 per month
Borrower Protection Up to PHP 500 per month
Cash Pick Up Fee PHP 300
Early repayment (full or partial) PHP 300
Change due date PHP 300
Overpayment refund PHP 50

Two rows deserve a second look. The processing fee exists in two versions: a ₱500 cap on the disclosures page and a 3%-of-loan charge capped at ₱1,000 that comes out of your proceeds in the store listings. On a ₱50,000 loan those two versions differ by ₱1,000, so read which one your contract uses. Now the add-ons. The two insurance-style charges, Extra Care and Borrower Protection, add up to ₱599 a month, Extra Care and Borrower Protection, add up to ₱599 a month at their caps; ask at offer stage whether they are optional on your loan, because over 12 months they outgrow the processing fee several times.

The payouts differ by channel too. Bank transfer to partners like BPI, BDO, UnionBank, Land Bank, Metrobank, PNB, Security Bank, RCBC, AUB, and China Bank carries no pickup fee, while cash pick-up at Palawan Express or Cebuana Lhuillier adds the ₱300 charge.

The Late-Fee Ladder, Published

Most apps in our tables keep penalties dark. Home Credit publishes the whole ladder, updated as of October 2025, and borrowers should read it as the true cost of falling behind.

That termination clause is the line that changes behavior. Ninety days of missed payments can add four-tenths of your remaining principal to the debt, before the other charges. If a due date is at risk, contact the lender early; the published "change due date" fee of ₱300 is cheaper than every rung above it.

Pros and Cons at a Glance

What to Know Before You Apply

We publish no borrower testimonials we cannot verify, so this section carries the checklist instead.

  1. Confirm you are eligible for the cash loan at all. Existing-customer status decides; ask in the app before investing time.
  2. Demand the EIR for your quote. The nominal monthly rate understates the cost; the disclosures page shows the 3.89% average for scale.
  3. Ask which processing-fee version your contract uses, ₱500 cap or 3%/₱1,000 deducted, and whether Extra Care and Borrower Protection are optional. Refusing optional add-ons is allowed and cheaper.
  4. Pick the payout channel deliberately. Bank transfer avoids the ₱300 pick-up fee.
  5. Read the late-fee ladder before signing, then set a reminder two days before every due date. Truth in Lending disclosures are required in writing; keep yours.

Red Flags: When to Think Twice

The registry is clean, so the flags here are product-shaped, not scam-shaped.

Frequently asked questions

Is Home Credit SEC registered?

Yes, with the strongest record in our tables. The operator, HC Consumer Finance Philippines Inc., is a financing company with Certificate of Authority 1071 from the SEC's public registry (registration CS201301354, CA issued April 7, 2017), and "My Home Credit" is on the recorded platforms list dated January 26, 2026. Verified September 16, 2026.

Is Home Credit legit ba?

Legit ba? Yes by registry standards: a primary CA, a recorded platform, and no enforcement action in the records we track. The watch-outs are commercial, not legal: three published rate versions, a tall optional-fee stack, and a cash-loan gate that favors existing customers.

What interest rate does Home Credit charge?

Three official versions: the website says monthly rates "start at 2.32%"; the disclosures page says nominal rates run 1.49% to 8.99% per month with an average monthly EIR of 3.89%; the stores say 2.49% to 8.49% per month, 30% to 102% a year. Compare offers by effective rate, not the nominal sticker.

Can a new customer get a Home Credit cash loan?

Not guaranteed. The cash loan page states Home Credit "currently provide[s] cash loans to our existing customers". New users are typically brought in through store installment products first. Ask in the app; if cash is urgent, pick a lender that accepts first-time borrowers.

What happens if I miss a Home Credit payment?

The published ladder: up to ₱300 at 5 days late, ₱700 at 30 days, ₱1,000 at 60 days, termination at 90 days adding 40% of outstanding principal, plus 2% per 120 days up to 270 days and a ₱5,000 attorney's fee. Moving a due date costs ₱300, cheaper than every rung of the ladder.

The Verdict on this lender

The rule never changes: confirm the registration, read the disclosure, then borrow only what you can repay on time. With Home Credit, add the corollary: get the EIR in writing.
