Is Tala SEC Registered? Status and CA Number

Contents

Yes. Tala is SEC registered in the Philippines: the brand operates through Tala Financing Philippines Inc., which holds Certificate of Authority No. 1132 in the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) financing companies registry. I verified the record on September 16, 2026. Tala also appears in the regulator's list of recorded online lending platforms, released January 26, 2026. One caveat comes with the yes: the real lender is registered, but fake apps borrowing the Tala name are not.

The registry record in detail

This is the full record, straight from the SEC registry. Checked September 16, 2026.

"Primary source" is the detail that matters. The CA number above comes from the SEC's own financing companies registry, not from a company footer or a secondhand aggregator. Most loan apps only self-report their CA numbers. Here, the registry itself does the talking.

Brand and company are not the same thing

Who holds the license? Not the brand. Tala is a global consumer-lending brand operated by InVentiv. The Philippine license sits with a local corporation: Tala Financing Philippines Inc., a financing company.

The SEC keeps separate registries for lending companies and financing companies. Tala sits in the financing one. Complaints, advisories, and registry checks all attach to the corporation, never to the logo. When the SEC flagged fake Tala apps in 2026, it flagged operators with no such corporation behind them.

The fake Tala warning of 2026

Registration protects the company on paper. It does not stop scammers from wearing its name. In 2026, that is exactly what happened, twice.

I log every advisory for our illegal loan apps tracker, and the Tala fakes stand out: they borrowed a name people already trust. On June 13, 2026, the SEC warned about three fakes borrowing Tala's identity: Tala-Cash Loan Philippines, Tala AISI-loan app quickly, and Tala Shuk Lending Inc. The stated grounds were impersonation and phishing, reported by Business Inquirer. Months earlier, the March 2026 advisory listed fake Tala clones inside app stores: Tala Peso, Tala CashPro, Tala Loan, TalaCash, and Tala Pera. The same wave listed an unregistered app called Napaka Tala.

How to stay on the right side of that line:

How to check Tala (or any lender) yourself

You can repeat this check for any app in about five minutes. Three tools, all free, all official. I run them on every app we list.

  1. Search the financing companies registry. Open the SEC financing companies registry, roughly 780 records, with columns for name, registration number, CA number, and date. Search by corporation name, not brand. That is how you find Tala Financing Philippines Inc. with CA 1132.
  2. Check the recorded platforms list. The SEC's online lending platforms list, recorded under MC 19, series of 2019, lists 117 companies and about 178 platforms in its January 26, 2026 release. Tala is in it. The page blocks automated access, so open it in a browser.
  3. Use the SEC verifier or ask directly. The Check-with-SEC tool is the commission's own lookup. If anything stays unclear, contact the SEC, including hotline 1-4SEC.

One timing note. MC 10, series of 2021 froze new platforms from November 2021; MC 20, series of 2026 ended the freeze on August 1, 2026. The registry will grow again. Always read status pages with their check date.

What registration does (and does not) give you

Start with what it gives. A registered lender is a real legal subject, not an anonymous app. You get an entity to complain about at the SEC, disclosures required by the Truth in Lending Act (RA 3765), and fair-collection rules under MC 20, series of 2026, in force since August 1, 2026.

Now the honest part. Registration is about legality, not price. Tala still publishes no interest rate and no fee amounts, which is why our Tala review keeps those rows marked "not published."

Frequently asked questions

Is Tala SEC registered?

Yes. Tala Financing Philippines Inc. holds Certificate of Authority No. 1132 in the SEC financing companies registry, and we verified the record on September 16, 2026. Tala also appears in the recorded online lending platforms list released January 26, 2026.

Is Tala legit ba or scam?

The lender is legit: a registered corporation with CA 1132 and a place in the January 26, 2026 platforms list. The scam risk is impersonation. In 2026 the SEC flagged fake apps named Tala Peso, Tala CashPro, and Tala-Cash Loan Philippines, among others. Verify the entity, download through official channels from tala.ph, and you are on the safe side.

What is Tala's CA number?

Certificate of Authority No. 1132. The number is primary-sourced: it comes straight from the SEC financing companies registry, checked September 16, 2026.

Which Tala app is the real one?

The one connected to Tala Financing Philippines Inc. through official channels from tala.ph. In our check on September 16, 2026 we could not verify an app store listing, so treat the official site as the trusted door. Anything demanding money upfront under a Tala name points to the clones the SEC flagged in 2026.
